![]() June 18th is known as National Day in the Seychelles. This day commemorates the implementation of a multiparty democracy headed by the René Administration. This day of festivities consists of many activities such as, but not limited to, parades, a flower show, music and a presidential speech. This year a special surprise was in-store for the participants - a 10-metre flag draped from below one of our helicopters piloted by Captain Rick Dooley circled high above the stadiums crowds to the delight of the onlookers. At least 12,000 people attended this day of national celebration, at which, the current President James A. Michel addressed the nation in a speech, marking the 11th anniversary of the National Day, when Seychelles, in 1993 implemented its first and current multiparty system. During the change this new flag was introduced. The colour blue represents the sky and the sea that surrounds the Seychelles. Yellow is for the sun which gives light and life, red symbolises the people and their determination to work for the future in unity and love. The white band represents social justice and harmony. The green signifies the land and natural environment.
